建筑上使用的鋁板包括單層鋁板、復合鋁板等多種材料，一般常常指單層鋁板（也有叫單鋁板或純鋁板），多用于建筑裝飾工程中，近年來在鋁板幕墻中單層鋁板使用的較為多見。鋁板幕墻也是幕墻的一種形式，簡單地說是用鋁板代替玻璃制成幕墻，鋁板幕墻多用于作墻體蔽護和不采光的墻壁。

國外的鋁板幕墻一直選用單層鋁板。單層鋁板一般用純鋁板。鋁板厚度為3mm，為了加強鋁板板面強度，在鋁板的背面，必須安裝加強筋(現(xiàn)有的廠家不安)，加強筋用厚的鋁帶做成，先用閃光焊機把一顆顆螺絲帽焊在鋁板背面然后把作加強筋的鋁條鉆孔套進螺絲內(nèi)，用螺絲固定。

我國為了減輕鋁板重量，增加鋁板強度，我們采用鋁合金板，常選用21號防銹鋁代號LF21壓成的鋁板作幕墻鋁板。鋁板厚度由原來3mm減少為2.5mm，該合金強度比純鋁板高出一倍左右。加強筋用LF21鋁帶，鋁帶的寬度厚度根據(jù)鋁板板面而定，一般厚2-2.5mm，寬10-25mm。鋁板幕墻的鋁板背面為什么要安加強筋，是在外界正負壓力的情況下，鋁板一不會凹陷，二不會鼓出，這樣就避免了鋁板幕墻反復里外振動而發(fā)出的振動聲音。如果需要隔音保溫，可在鋁板內(nèi)側(cè)，安放巖棉、礦渣棉或發(fā)泡處理。

幕墻鋁板表面處理，可分為二種方法，一種是陽極氧化，另一種是靜電噴涂。陽極氧化的氧化膜一般在12μ以上，顏色只有古銅色和白色兩種，顏色單調(diào)，更為嚴重的缺點是每塊鋁板板面的顏色深淺不一，許多塊幕墻板組合在一起形成一個幕墻整體效果非常難看。這個缺點可以說無法消除，并非生產(chǎn)技術(shù)造成的，而是由于鋁板并非是由一批號，化學成份，均有小的差別，再加上氧化時電解槽液電流密度等因素均無法完全一樣，所以氧化后的顏色多少均有差異，單張看可能不明顯，若都排在一起即非常明顯。所以鋁板幕墻的鋁板表面處理，決不能用陽極氧化。

幕墻鋁板表面處理的另一種方法是靜電噴涂。噴涂又分為粉沫噴涂和液體噴涂。粉沫噴涂材料主要為：聚氨酯、聚脹樹脂、環(huán)氧樹脂等原料配以高保色性顏料，可得到幾十種不同顏色的噴涂粉沫。該噴涂粉沫，耐撞碰耐磨擦，在50公斤撞擊下，鋁板變形，噴涂層無裂紋，無掉層完整無損，抗稀酸及砂漿。的缺點怕紫外線長期照射，幾年后易產(chǎn)生陰陽面顏色的差異。國內(nèi)不少廠家生產(chǎn)的噴涂粉沫，重量差異甚大，有的粉沫含金屑這種粉沫在掛到墻面以后，隨陽光角度變化，白天和黃昏有變化，墻面顏色深淺有差異，選用粉沫噴涂料希引起注意。
